Successes

Fulbright Austria instituted the following reforms after we started advocating for them:

• Public stipend information: Until spring 2022, the amount of the monthly stipend was not publicly available on the Fulbright US Student website or on Fulbright Austria's own website. In particular, grantees did not know that the stipend is below the poverty line until after applying and winning the grant, just a few months before moving internationally. Now the stipend amounts are online, along with an acknowledgement that they do not cover the full costs of living.
  
  
• Retroactive raises for the 2022-2023 grantees: On May 5, 2023, Fulbright Austria emailed the 2022-2023 Fulbright US Students to announce that those making 1,050€/month would receive retroactive raises to 1,150€/month. This means that each of these grantees will receive almost one thousand euros of back pay!
  
  
• Raises for the 2023-2024 grantees: On June 26, 2023, Fulbright Austria announced that the minimum Fulbright US Student grant would rise to 1,250€/month, starting with the 2023-2024 cohort! This brings the stipends up to 90% of the at-risk-of-poverty line. Just a little over a year ago, grantees were making 77% of the at-risk-of-poverty line (1,050€/month stipend, 1,371€/month at-risk-of-poverty line).
